OLCERI is an adaptive and maturing project that operates in the Lakota way.
We recognize that each of our decisions are honor-bound to the lives of the next seven generations of all living things.
We are motivated by honor, compassion, understanding, and freedom. We lead with a good heart. We respect all our relations.
The Great Agreement (Oceti Sakowin)
A great agreement places humans as stewards of the earth with the responsibility of balancing and harmonizing nature. OLCERI upholds this commitment by ensuring that every decision taken is honor-bound to the lives of the next seven generations of all living things. Our projects must be in harmony with the seven tenets of the Lakota Medicine Wheel. And they must use a 300-year traditional planning model.
Hecel Lena Oyate Ki Nipi Kta Cha Lecamu. Mitakuye Oyasin
(Translation: We are doing this so the people can excel and thrive in life. We are all related.)
We, the Oceti Sakowin, seek to live our lives by Wicozani.
We know wicozani is living in a responsible way; making decisions that benefit all.
We know Man was chosen by the animals to be the caretaker of all Oyates and all their interrelatedness
Because not all of man’s oyates have this wisdom, we recognize the need to reach out to them so they can learn wicozani, and come to realize that the attitude “Take everything, leave nothing” only hurts everyone.
We agree to strongly support intelligent, thoughtful efforts to repair damage done to (the natural world and its interrelationships).
We agree to be stewards instead of extractionist.
We agree that our test for planning will be with a vision of good for our next seven generations of all Oyate.
